GD Executive Secretary claims party mitigated risks through strategic political decisions
“With our political decision, we have effectively mitigated most risks. If it weren’t for the information we shared with the public after November 28, one can only imagine the consequences that could have followed yesterday’s announcement regarding the suspension of visa liberalization for Georgia,” stated Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of Georgian Dream.
According to Mdinaradze, more serious developments would have occurred in Georgia than the plans devised by the opposition. He noted that while the opposition had initiated preparations, they managed to activate only one-half or one-quarter of their strategy, which included supplying pyrotechnics and Molotov cocktails.
“Yesterday, we could have faced a far greater disaster, on a larger scale than the events we condemned in the previous days. No one wants to witness a confrontation between the police and demonstrators or the use of force—excessive or legitimate. Certainly, no one condones the violence against the police that arose from these situations.
However, the insurance we put in place was timely, necessary, and preventive. Today, as we speak calmly and congratulate one another on St. Barbara Day, we recognize that we successfully mitigated the risks due to our sound political decisions.
If you look back at yesterday, nobody mentioned negotiations, did they? The narrative could have centred around the suspension of visa liberalization, which was virtually ruled out. Still, it could have sparked the chaos they intended, undermining everything according to their plan. The refusal to initiate negotiations could have become a second critical narrative, and one can only imagine their reaction, which is evident today,” he said.
