Gakharia for Georgia’s Chanturia: Repressive lawsuits will never halt our political activities
“We have not read the lawsuit itself, but no valid legal argument could be presented to demonstrate our unconstitutionality,” stated Giorgi Chanturia, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, in response to Georgian Dream’s expanded constitutional lawsuit.
Chanturia emphasised that their party has fulfilled every legal obligation and remains accountable to the country’s citizens and laws.
“Our party holds representation both in Parliament and in municipal councils across the country. Consequently, this is a political suit aimed at liquidating a legitimate political party rather than a genuine legal petition, making the lawsuit itself unconstitutional. Georgian Dream’s objectives defy all logic. However, looking at their repressive actions over recent years, it is clear they are doing everything in their power to suppress dissenting voices, targeting ordinary citizens and political parties alike.
As this lawsuit points out, Georgian Dream’s primary objective remains the eradication of critical thought nationwide. They began with citizens, arresting and fining individuals, and have now moved on to political parties. We shall see how events unfold. If Georgian Dream believes these lawsuits and repressive measures can extinguish dissent, they are mistaken. Suppressing political thought through state repression is impossible in 2026, when information flows seamlessly. I firmly believe that Georgian Dream’s path will only accelerate the end of its own political reign.
No repressive lawsuit will prevent us from continuing our political work. If anyone within Georgian Dream believes that even if the court grants this lawsuit and formally bans us, our political team will simply fall silent and vanish, they are gravely mistaken,” Chanturia declared.
Through its amended constitutional lawsuit, Georgian Dream is formally seeking to outlaw the Gakharia For Georgia party. The ruling party previously filed a constitutional lawsuit requesting that the activities of the United National Movement (UNM), the Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia–Lelo, and the Federalists be declared unconstitutional and outlawed.
