Gakharia for Georgia party calls on CEC to allow verified voters to check their vote records post-elections
On September 23, the Gakharia for Georgia party formally appealed to the Central Election Commission (CEC), demanding that verified voters be granted immediate access to verify their own data following the elections.
According to the party’s official statement, specifically, Gakharia for Georgia insists that voters should have the opportunity to confirm whether their participation in the elections has been properly recorded and to identify the precinct where their vote is registered.
“This request aligns fully with Georgian legislation, including laws regulating personal data. It is not a call to disclose personal information but rather to provide citizens with access to information about themselves, just as voters can verify their identity and locate their polling stations,” the party said in a statement.
The party emphasises that voters must be able to verify their votes after the election concludes, dismissing the remaining days before polling as a valid reason for the CEC to deny this request. A similar appeal was made by Gakharia for Georgia following the 2024 elections, but at that time, the system concealed this data, effectively delaying the pursuit of transparency.
Furthermore, the party notes that after the 2024 elections, Georgian Dream exacerbated the electoral environment by changing legislation to suit its own interests, effectively manipulating the process.
Additionally, Gakharia for Georgia has repeatedly informed the public about the pressure and intimidation tactics employed by Georgian Dream against candidates, leading to several withdrawals from the race after registration.
“The public is aware that no credible international organisation will be observing the upcoming elections,” the party’s statement concludes.
