Four employees of Administration of Muslims have quit their posts in protest of election of new Mufti of Georgia Adam Shantadze.
Advisor of Mufti Temur Gorgadze, Head of Press Service Otar Nadiradze, Head of Publishing House Gela Gogitidze and Head of Education Department Rezo Mikeladze said that Adam Shantadze was the candidate of the State Security Service and his appointment would not benefit the interests of Muslims.
“The elections had to be held one month ago. The State Security Service was looking for a desirable candidate. The Administration of Mufti last night received a telephone call and Mufti himself learnt that he would be elected,” Gorgadze told journalists.
Adam Shantadze, who has previously served as Deputy Mufti at the Administration of Muslims of All Georgia, has been elected as Mufti of Georgia.
Shantadze’s candidacy was supported by 13 members out of 19 from the Council of Muslims. Three candidates ran for the post. Shantadze was elected with 5-year term as Mufti of Georgia.
