Former head of Co-Investment Fund sentenced to imprisonment for 4 years and 5 months
Giorgi Bachiashvili, former General Director of the Co-Investment Fund, has been found guilty of illegally crossing the state border and sentenced to four years and five months in prison.
Another individual, Shota Karumidze, was also convicted for the same term for aiding Giorgi Bachiashvili based on Judge Jvebe Nachkebia’s decision.
Giorgi Bachiashvili left the country before the court sentenced him to 11 years in prison for embezzling cryptocurrency from Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili. The prosecutor’s office charged Bachiashvili with illegal border crossing, while Karumidze was accused of aiding and abetting the illegal crossing of the Georgian state border, an offence punishable by a sentence of three to five years in prison.
