Foreign Relations Committee Chair says gov't stands West-oriented, Transparency bill not to deter Georgia from joining EU

“Tagging Transparency of Foreign Influence bill as Russian law is a discrediting political metaphor that aims to cause public unrest. This is because anything called Russian in Georgia causes an upset,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee.

According to Nikoloz Samkharadze, the foreign policy of the Georgian Dream is confirmed by the inscription in the Constitution, and the bill will not deter Georgia’s course for joining the EU.

“It is not accidental that the opponents call the bill Russian. There is no similarity between Russian and Georgian bills. Our party, the Georgian Dream, amended the Constitution and penned that Georgia aspires to EU and NATO membership. We are west-oriented, and the Transparency bill will not deter Georgia from joining the EU,” he said.
