Foreign Relations Committee Chair: Georgia to use IPU platform to push forward country interests
“We will hold meetings with parliament chairmen from different countries and continents in Geneva to push forward Georgia’s interests, including non-recognition policy,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee.
According to Samkharadze, the conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is held once every several years.
“We will use this platform to push forward Georgia’s interests, including the non-recognition policy. We will meet with parliament chairs from different countries and continents to discuss bilateral relations and Georgia’s occupied territories. The organisation has a wide geographic scope, with nearly all countries being members. We will seize the opportunity to meet with representatives from Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other regions. The agenda includes a panel discussion where the Speaker will address the participants, focusing on the issues of conflicts and peace,” he said.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, departed for Geneva to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference. Within the framework of the visit, they will hold high-level meetings with parliament presidents from different countries.
