Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia calls on the Russian side to refrain from distribution of misinformation and fix its position at Geneva International Discussions where Georgian side will respond adequately – reads the statement released by Press and Information Department of Georgian Foreign Ministry regarding the meeting held in online format between Zurab Abashidze, Special Representative of Georgian Prime Minister for Russian Relations and Gregoriy Karasin, a member of the Russian Federal Council on November 27.

Foreign Ministry says that the issues of COVID-19 vaccine, developments of June of 2019 as well as mutual standpoint about coping with outcomes of anti-Russian provocation were not considered during the meeting.

According to the Ministry, Foreign Ministry usually does not comment about the meetings held in Abashidze-Karasin format since they are informal dealing only with conomic and humanitarian problems.

The Ministry said in the statement that Zurab Abashidze had released a detailed press release about the meeting that was followed by the information prepared by Russian Foreign Ministry. The information did not reflect the content and topics discussed during the meeting.

“This is not the first case when Russian side is distributing misinformation and uses economic and humanitarian format for political purposes and propaganda,” reads the statement.

The Ministry explains that political issues including the situation across occupied territories are discussed at Geneva International Discussions.

The next round of Geneva International Discussions is scheduled for December 10-11.
