For Georgia's MP Sharashidze: GD has wholly irresponsible ministers; FM blamed EU for freezing Georgia's accession process

“Today has once again confirmed that Georgian Dream has entirely irresponsible ministers,” said MP Giorgi Sharashidze, member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, commenting in parliament on Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili’s interpellation.

He argued that rather than accepting personal responsibility, as one of the principal figures accountable for Georgia’s foreign policy and for the damage inflicted on its European course, the Foreign Minister did precisely the opposite.

“She laid the blame for the suspension of Georgia’s EU accession process at the door of the European Union itself. She accepted responsibility for nothing, not for the democratic backsliding, not for the anti-democratic legislation, not for the violations of human rights, not for the violence against dozens of protesters, not for the subsequent impunity enjoyed by those who carried out that violence, not for the restrictions placed on non-governmental organisations and independent media, and not for the many other offences besides. While speaking before Parliament, she accused the European Union, implying that Brussels has halted Georgia’s progress towards European integration.

This is the sorry reality we face: Georgian Dream ministers, draped in the cloak of pseudo-nationalism and pseudo-patriotism, are in truth the representatives of a thoroughly anti-national and anti-patriotic force. That is the plain fact of the matter. What are we to discuss when the country has been driven into a dead end from which no way out is visible until this government remains in office or fails to seize one of its last remaining chances to come to its senses and return Georgia to the path of a European future,” Sharashidze stated.
