The Georgian national football team faced Israel in their opening match of 2026 at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Head coach Willy Sagnol fielded two debutants in central defence, Luka Gadrani and Ilia Beriashvili. There was also an update in midfield. In the absence of the injured Giorgi Kochorashvili, the French tactician introduced a third newcomer, Gizi Mamageishvili.
Before kick-off, the Vice-President of the Football Federation, Aleksandre Iashvili, presented Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with the 2025 Player of the Year award.
