FM: Strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia is vital for our countries and regional stability
“Cooperation, friendship and strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia is important both for our countries and for the well-being and stability of the region,” Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili stated following a meeting with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during a joint press statement.
According to her, Georgia and Armenia enjoy successful cooperation across various platforms, and this collaboration on the international stage will continue.
“Ararat Mirzoyan is on an official visit to Georgia. I am delighted that I had this opportunity, that you accepted my invitation and visited Georgia. It is a great honour for me to host you in Georgia in return for your warm reception in Yerevan.
Relations between Georgia and Armenia are founded on a great history of mutual respect and solid friendship between our peoples. For precisely this reason, the strategic partnership which was strengthened between our countries from 2024 onwards is an entirely logical result of these ancient relations. 2025 has been quite dynamic in relations between our countries, with numerous visits conducted, including visits at the highest level.
I have visited Yerevan on several occasions, and we have likewise hosted representatives from our friendly government in Georgia on numerous occasions. Most recently, at the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, an Armenian delegation, led by the Prime Minister, was present. Our meeting today is a continuation of this ongoing engagement. We also look forward to the President’s visit in the near future.
We can confidently say that the friendship between our peoples and the bonds connecting our countries are truly reflected in the vibrancy of our political dialogue.
Our bilateral relations are developing dynamically across a range of areas, including trade, economics, transport, tourism, culture, education and other fields, which is of great importance. The relevant ministries are working effectively to ensure the optimal realisation of these relations.
Today, we discussed these directions of cooperation, priorities, future steps, and matters of collaboration. We also had a conversation about our region.
Georgia welcomes the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan concluded in Washington on August 8. This historic agreement genuinely marks a step towards establishing sustainable peace in the South Caucasus and paves the way for the long-term, stable development in the region.
Georgia has consistently played a vital role in the region’s development, fostering peaceful and stable progress, and will continue to contribute to strengthening regional cooperation.
In this context, I would highlight a trilateral Armenia-Georgia-Azerbaijan meeting that Tbilisi hosted for the first time this year. This gathering aimed to lay the groundwork for mutually beneficial cooperation among the South Caucasus countries. I remain hopeful that this cooperation will persist and yield significant benefits for all three nations and the region as a whole.
Armenia is a staunch supporter of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is reflected at the international level. Our countries successfully cooperate in various formats and international organisations, and we shall continue this mutually beneficial work on the international stage.
During our meeting, we discussed significant regional and global issues, as well as reviewed our cooperation with partners. The cooperation, friendship, and strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia are vital not only for our two countries but also for the well-being and stability of the wider region.
In conclusion, I want to thank you for your visit to Tbilisi. Naturally, our cooperation and friendship will continue in a manner befitting the historic history of our countries, our exemplary relations, and the spirit of strategic partnership,” Botchorishvili declared.
