FM Maka Botchorishvili welcomes progress in Georgia-Turkmenistan political dialogue; high-level meetings catalyse closer ties

“Georgian government values further deepening of bilateral relations with Turkmenistan based on equality, mutual respect and cooperation principles,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili following the meeting with Turkmenistani colleague Raşit Öwezgeldiýewiç Meredow.

According to Maka Botchorishvili, today’s visit is “another step forward” in deepening Georgia-Turkmenistan political dialogue.

“Our political dialogue plays a crucial role in the development of trade and economic ties, which remains one of the top priorities in Georgia-Turkmenistan relations. A session of the intergovernmental economic cooperation commission will be held next year. I believe this will be an excellent opportunity to identify new areas for further collaboration,” she said.

Maka Botchorishvili emphasised that foreign ministries would do their utmost to strengthen Georgia-Turkmenistan cooperation across various areas.

“Georgia is hosting the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, dedicated to a key issue for our country. Strengthening connectivity and deepening relations with Turkmenistan are priorities for us. We place great importance on cooperation within international organisations. Both Georgia and Turkmenistan respect international law and norms. I would like to once again express my gratitude for the support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and we remain committed to continuing fruitful cooperation within international organisations.

It was an honour for me to engage in discussions with my colleague on important issues affecting our region, security, and the wider area. I wish to emphasise the significance of peace, which we recognise as fundamental to cooperation and to strengthening economic ties between our countries and the broader region,” she said.
