FM: International forums provide crucial platform to communicate Georgia’s position and challenges to partners
“Despite security challenges, Georgia has managed to become an economically attractive country and implement economic reforms that now enable it to play a significant role in the region and the development of the Middle Corridor,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili in a statement to journalists in New Delhi, where she is on an official visit.
According to the FM, the visit to India was a good opportunity to demonstrate to partners that Georgia is indeed the connecting route that should be utilized.
“Our main message, of course, is that despite the security challenges Georgia faces, our country has managed to become an economically attractive country and has implemented economic reforms that now allow it to play an important role in the region, to play an important role in the development of the Middle Corridor.
The Middle Corridor is essential for countries situated in both the East and the West. This provided a valuable opportunity for our partners to clearly recognize Georgia’s position, location, and capabilities. It is important to consider that Georgia is precisely the hub that should be utilized when discussing the development of connectivity and exploring new routes,” Botchorishvili stated.
She also noted that international forums generally provide good opportunities for communication and exchange of ideas with partners, and for providing them with real information about the situation in Georgia.
“We should make maximum use of this opportunity, and we are doing so. This is also a good opportunity for us to communicate Georgia’s positions to our partners, including those positions for which Georgia has been subjected to unfair criticism for a long time, and we still often hear such criticism from our European colleagues.
Of course, this is an excellent opportunity to engage with my colleagues once again, encouraging them to properly assess reality, understand the true situation, and refrain from relying on preconceived notions, which they often reference, claiming that changing perceptions is extremely challenging. If they are the ones creating these perceptions, it becomes exceedingly difficult to address them. Therefore, this is a valuable opportunity to provide them with accurate information about the current situation—what concerns Georgia has, what it desires, and what we are striving for,” said Maka Botchorishvili.
