FM Botchorishvili: We discussed issues central to resetting Georgia-U.S. relations; further delegation is expected later in May

“At our meeting with the U.S. State Department delegation, we discussed the issues that are of importance in the process of resetting relations between our two countries,” said Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, speaking following the meeting held between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Sonata Coulter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America (USA) for European and Eurasian Affairs.

The Minister also stated that an additional delegation from the United States is scheduled to visit at the end of May, during which the forthcoming steps in Georgia-U.S. cooperation will be examined in greater detail.

“The visit of the U.S. State Department delegation is directed towards the question of how we should develop cooperation between Georgia and the United States. We discussed the issues that are of importance in the process of resetting relations between the two countries. We spoke about the steps ahead. At the end of the month, we anticipate a further delegation whose visit will facilitate a more comprehensive review of the next steps in our collaboration. One thing is particularly telling: both sides recognise how important it is to continue a relationship founded on mutual respect and pragmatic cooperation, and that matters enormously. It is most encouraging that the same messages coming from the Georgian side are being echoed by the American delegation as well,” Botchorishvili stated.
