FM Botchorishvili: U.S.-Georgia partnership needs timely, clear positioning
“Relations with the United States are very important for Georgia. Precisely because of this importance, we expect certain messages from the U.S. when we talk about qualitatively resetting relations and fair treatment toward Georgia,” stated Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Maka Botchorishvili.
The head of the Foreign Ministry commented on the Georgian Prime Minister’s open letter to Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. According to Maka Botchorishvili, a strategic partnership with the United States is a matter of great importance and significance for Georgia, demanding the prompt establishment of clear and definitive positions concerning Georgia.
“Georgia has repeatedly demonstrated over the years that it is a strategically vital partner for the United States. Naturally, the functioning of the existing strategic agreement between our countries remains crucial to us, and we must understand the stance of the new U.S. administration regarding Georgia. Regrettably, we also cannot ignore the act passed by Congress, known as the so-called MEGOBARI Act, which, unfortunately, offers few signs of friendship. We need to know the White House’s position on how relations with Georgia should develop. This is of great importance, and once again, we emphasise that a strategic partnership with the U.S. is a matter of utmost significance for Georgia, requiring the timely establishment of clear and definitive positions regarding our country,” stated Maka Botchorishvili.
