FM Botchorishvili: Sanctioning Georgian citizens undermines historical ties and political stability

“Sanctioning Georgian citizens serves to advance a political agenda in Georgia, significantly damaging the historically established relations and partnership between the two countries,” stated Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, commenting on the sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom.

The head of the Foreign Ministry expressed concern that the UK’s actions represent a campaign against Georgia through the use of sanctions.

“We notice that, over time, various individuals are being sanctioned for the same reasons, primarily serving to create a political agenda within Georgia and making these issues the focal point of internal political discourse. This is a step that profoundly harms the historically established relations and partnership between our two nations. Such actions obstruct our bilateral cooperation and jeopardize any common interests we may share,” emphasized Maka Botchorishvili.

The Foreign Minister further noted that there are many issues where double standards can be observed, particularly concerning Georgia.

“What is permissible in the democratic world has unfortunately manifested in Georgia as a regression of democracy over the years, taking on a somewhat campaign-like nature concerning our country,” Maka Botchorishvili remarked.
