FM Botchorishvili: Opposition politicians deliberately undermine state, never serving Georgia's interests

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili is testifying before the Parliament’s temporary investigative commission, which is examining actions by certain politicians from 2012 to 2025 that have harmed Georgia’s foreign policy interests.

“Relations with the European Union and that experience are particularly significant politically, especially in the context we’re discussing today. Perhaps my experience led to my role as the European Integration Committee chairperson, where I spent four years contributing to Georgia’s security and European integration. This period was crucial and insightful, as it revealed the threats and challenges facing our country, issues that have always existed but became more apparent during these four years. It became clear what processes are underway regarding Georgia and who is involved in these developments,” said Maka Botchorishvili.

According to Botchorishvili, it is regrettable when “colleagues who are called Georgian politicians deliberately fight against the state.”

The Foreign Minister further explained that the activities of opposition representatives have never been directed toward Georgia’s benefit.

“On one hand, it is regrettable to watch your colleagues, people sitting next to you, who are also called Georgian politicians, being deliberately engaged in a fight against the state. This is truly not a pleasant picture and I don’t know how it can bring happiness. In the two delegations I led, the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee (EU-GEORGIA PAC) delegation and the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly (EURONEST PA) delegation, there were also opposition representatives who had both the legal basis and the opportunity to carry out certain activities, however, these activities were never directed toward Georgia’s benefit,” declared Maka Botchorishvili.
