FM Botchorishvili: Georgia respects OSCE's independence; attempts to manipulate it for narrow political interests are unacceptable

“Georgia holds a deep respect for the independent institutions of the OSCE. Any attempts by certain actors to manipulate these institutions as political instruments for narrow interests, particularly against our country’s sovereignty, are utterly unacceptable to us,” asserted Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili at a briefing alongside OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu.

Botchorishvili emphasized that Georgia has recently become a striking example of overt foreign interference in its domestic political affairs.

“We frequently witness attempts to misuse international institutions, which contradict the very fundamental principles upon which the international order is built—principles that international organizations are obligated to uphold. The Georgian government is firmly committed to the principles of the OSCE and international law, and we expect the same commitment from our partners. We have consistently reaffirmed our trust in the OSCE. A clear demonstration of this was our invitation to the OSCE/ODIHR to observe last year’s parliamentary elections, coupled with our full support for the implementation of their activities. The recommendations from the ODIHR are of great importance to us, and we are eager to continue our collaboration in implementing them.

Once again, I wish to express my gratitude for your visit to Georgia, especially during this challenging geopolitical climate, and for your deep understanding of the complexities we face. I would also like to wish you success in your role as Secretary General of this significant organization, tasked with ensuring security and cooperation in our region,” concluded Maka Botchorishvili.
