FM announces completion of ambassador selection, calls it opportunity for U.S.-Georgia relations reset
“The process related to the appointment of Tamar Taliashvili has been completed. On June 4, we received the agreement from the United States, which allows our ambassador to arrive in Washington as soon as possible and begin working,” Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili announced.
According to Botchorishvili, this represents a positive moment for Georgia-U.S. relations.
“The appointment and dispatch of an ambassador to a country is a crucial element in relations between two nations. The process related to the appointment of Tamar Taliashvili has been completed. On June 4, we finally received the letter of agreement from the United States. It enables us to facilitate the ambassador’s arrival in Washington promptly and to begin addressing key issues related to Georgia-U.S. relations. This is, of course, very significant.
We are also pleased with the issuance of the letter of agreement from the United States, as the candidate we proposed was deemed acceptable and has been officially confirmed. This is once again a good moment to look at relations between the U.S. and Georgia from a fresh perspective, with new eyes,” Botchorishvili said.
Additionally, Botchorishvili expressed confidence that Tamar Taliashvili will serve as a highly effective ambassador.
“Tamar Taliashvili is an excellent professional, an experienced diplomat, and enjoys considerable political credibility both with me personally and with the Georgian government; this is vital when an ambassador represents a country abroad, particularly in the United States. I am confident that she will be a very successful ambassador and will play an important role in strengthening relations between the USA and Georgia,” Botchorishvili concluded.
