FM affirms visa-free travel to remain unaffected as long as Georgia is treated fairly
“Georgia was granted visa-free travel based on the merits of the Georgian Dream policy. Nothing will threaten this status if there is a fair and respectful attitude towards Georgia,” stated Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili during a press briefing.
According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, Georgia has consistently fulfilled its obligations concerning relations with the European Union exceptionally well.
“I can assure you that visa-free travel will not be suspended due to the policies of the Georgian Dream. Georgia earned this privilege through its own efforts and commitments. The country has consistently fulfilled its obligations concerning relations with the European Union, including the Association Agreement. If anyone has concerns about whether commitments are being met, it is those who are on the other side.
We emphasise that this is an instrumentalisation of our relations with the European Union, an attempt to use visa-free travel as a political tool. There are no other grounds to discuss Georgia in this context,” she affirmed.
