FIS Secretary General says Georgia to become winter sports destination

International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Secretary General Michel Vion assessed the World Championship in Bakuriani positively and remarked that Georgia has everything to become a winter sports destination county.

“World Championships is very important for tourist development. You have everything, including infrastructure, good skiing tracks to become a winter sports destination country. Georgia held such a high-level championship for the first time and it proved the best with good results. You gained experience and should be proud of that,” he said.

Georgia hosts Freestyle, Snowboard and Friski World Championships – Bakuriani 2023 for the first time. The tournament takes place from February 16 to March 5 in Bakuriani resort under the aegis of the International Ski Federation (FIS), with the participation of about 700 athletes from 42 countries.

Over 175 million people watched the championship live. The sports part of the tournament will end today. Georgia will hand over the flag to the next host country, Switzerland. The solemn closing ceremony will take place on March 5.
