First Vice Speaker Volski: CoE resolution casts responsibility if things go wrong on October 4
“The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has approved a poor resolution, one that attacks European authority and targets everything European,” stated Gia Volski, the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament.
Volski expressed concern that the United National Movement’s plans for October 4 are fraught with violence, and that the Council of Europe resolution effectively assumes responsibility should anything go awry.
“The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has approved a poor resolution, one that attacks European authority and targets everything European. It reveals clear double standards. Between 2007 and 2011, the Council of Europe adopted resolutions that supported the oppressive regime. One resolution even falsely accused the Georgian military of initiating the war; that’s exactly what they did. During that period, only two resolutions concerning Georgia were passed, and one contained such shameless language that our delegation ceased its activities within the organisation. This current resolution is devoid of truth and fails to ask either side for accountability. It is directly linked to supporting the United National Movement. The plan of the United National Movement is bloody. With this resolution, the Council of Europe has effectively taken responsibility if anything negative occurs here,” Gia Volski warned.
On October 2, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution concerning Georgia, titled “Uphold democracy and the rule of law in Georgia.” The resolution received backing from 68 out of 77 delegates. Seven delegates voted against it, while two abstained.
