First Vice PM Davitashvili: Georgia’s Independence unites all, beyond politics
First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, congratulated Georgia on Independence Day.
Davitashvili spoke with journalists about the significance of today.
“I want to congratulate all of Georgia on Independence Day. May 26 is a special holiday, a national holiday. Accordingly, it is the most festive day of the year, when every Georgian unites around one goal, one idea, which is called an independent country. This is a very great value that we have been fighting to achieve for years.
Now we must preserve and strengthen all of this. Accordingly, each member of the Cabinet of Ministers bears a significant responsibility to bolster our independence, which encompasses complex dimensions. This ensures that sovereignty is reflected in all areas, enhancing the country’s recognition and reputation. Our goal is to improve living conditions for all citizens. Every sector plays a vital role in reinforcing our sovereignty. Achieving economic success is especially crucial, as it enables us to overcome poverty and establish Georgia as a prosperous nation.
Success in all other areas is equally important, as it allows us to fully realize and appreciate the significance of sovereignty. Each day brings us closer to these vital goals, further strengthening our independence. Georgia is gradually gaining prominence and recognition on the world map; naturally, our country’s visibility is increasing,” declared Levan Davitashvili.
Additionally, Levan Davitashvili was asked about the events organized by the opposition for today. He emphasized that Georgia’s independence is a universal achievement that everyone should unite around.
“Independence is a universal achievement, an idea around which everyone should unite, regardless of political taste or preferences. There are certain themes around which, without unity, we cannot preserve our achievements or attain success on the path to independence. No other area demands such strong societal and national cohesion.
Our independence has always been at risk when we lack unity. This is an issue around which the absence of solidarity is unimaginable and unacceptable. We can debate everything else—we can hold different opinions; this is a fundamental aspect of political life. Democracy principles include respecting diverse viewpoints and engaging in discussions and debates on various issues. Through such dialogues, we can achieve greater success. However, there are core values and fundamental issues around which discussion is impossible, and society can become divided. Among these, I believe organizing certain events is inappropriate,” declared Levan Davitashvili.
