Parliament of 10th Convocation opens

President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili opened the first sitting of the Georgian Parliament of the 10th Convocation.

The President addressed the lawmakers and then gave the floor to the elderly MP before a new speaker is elected.

Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, Ministers and members of the Holy Synod are attending the sitting.

The lawmakers will elect the Chairman, Vice Speakers, and heads of the parliamentary committees today. Based on the summarizing protocol published by the Central Election Commission (CEC), nine political parties secured their seats at the Parliament of the 10th Convocation.

The ruling Georgian Dream Party will have 90 mandates, the opposition – 60. European Georgia secured 5 seats, United National Movement – Power is in Unity – 36, Alliance of Patriots won 4 mandates, Labor Party – 1, Citizens- Aleko Elisashvili has two seats, Giorgi Vashadze-Strategy Aghmashenebeli – 4, Girchi also 4 seats and Lelo has 4 mandates.

The opposition renounces MP mandates and boycotts the parliamentary work.
