The 2025 FIE Fencing World Championships, held in Tbilisi from July 22 to July 30, concluded.
Featuring 1,205 fencers from 120 countries and approximately three thousand guests at the Tbilisi Arena, this was Georgia’s first time hosting the prestigious Olympic disciplines world championship.
At Tbilisi 2025, Georgian fencer Sandro Bazadze triumphed over Frenchman Jean-Philippe Patrice in the epee final, claiming the main title after securing bronze and silver medals in previous world championships.
It was also announced that Georgia will host another major event in 2026, the European Championship.
“The championship was conducted at an exceptionally high level, a sentiment echoed not only by me but also by international guests, which fills me with great pride. We received numerous awards from the international federation, and the highlight was Sandro Bazadze’s world championship victory,” stated Merab Bazadze, President of the Georgian Fencing Federation.
“Next year, Tbilisi will host the European Championship, another large-scale event. Additionally, in the fall, the veterans’ World Championship will take place here, attracting many distinguished participants,” Bazadze added.
