Female opposition MPs to work with gov’t to further advance European integration
Female opposition MPs Teona Akubaria, Khatuna Samnidze and Tamar Kordzaia said they would work with the government to advance the European integration process further.
At the briefing, the opposition MPs said that granting the EU candidate status was a responsibility that also meant “a dialogue, constructive cooperation without dispute and hatred.”
“The fight always has sense, and we are optimistic that progress is irreversible. The governments come and go, but the status belongs to the country. We acknowledge our share of responsibility and plan to join our efforts, which means cooperation and joint work,” Khatuna Samnidze said.
According to Teona Akubardia, candidate status was the dream of Georgian citizens and their ancestors. She thanked everybody who participated in the process.
“Today, we celebrate, but we have to prepare for the continuation of the process,” she said.
Tamar Kordzaia noted that candidate status meant more government oversight, economic growth, and high standards in education, environment protection and social spheres.
“This is our chance to move forward. Therefore, congratulations to everyone, regardless of political affiliation and taste. Everyone who wants this country to move forward. We have a lot of work ahead, but work is a process, and through this process, we will achieve results for the future benefit of our country,” she said.
On December 14, the European Council opened EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and granted EU candidate status to Georgia.
