Federalists’ Chergoleishvili: There was no coup, but complete sham; flag-draped idiots wandered about deceiving people

“In reality, there is no government overthrow case; there exists only one enormous sham, perpetrated by utterly unconscionable and irresponsible individuals,” declared Tamar Chergoleishvili, leader of the Federalist Party, during a media broadcast.

According to Chergoleishvili, dozens of people are languishing in prison under coup charges entirely without justification.

“I’ve no idea what actually happened. I wasn’t there. However, the fact remains that certain people obeyed instructions and believed it was right to go. In hope of what? How? In what manner? The fact is, nothing was being prepared. These simulacrum revolutionaries couldn’t muster even 100 people who would stand by them when arrests came. They’re brainless. Haven’t they already made one mistake by bringing misery to over 50 families? Now they’re making a second. They should come forward and honestly admit: ‘We deceived you,'” stated Tamar Chergoleishvili.

Chergoleishvili maintains that justice against Paata Burchuladze will inevitably be political and selective in every instance.

When asked whether her party, were it in government, would arrest people for such a violation, Chergoleishvili responded:

“Of course I’d arrest them, but only if there were criminal elements involved. What if there’s no coup scenario?”

In Chergoleishvili’s view, those arrested in connection with the October 4 events should have been detained not under coup charges but under different articles; for instance, damage to state property.

“A different article. A far lighter charge. For example, damage to state property or something similar; not a coup, because there was no coup. It was a complete sham; flag-draped idiots, absolute idiots, were wandering about deceiving people,” remarked Tamar Chergoleishvili.
