Federalists' Chergoleishvili: Peaceful overthrow is unclear; no deadlines to be set, it is over when we win
“I believe we must not set ourselves any deadlines whatsoever,” was the response given by one of the founding members of the Federalists party, Tamar Chergoleishvili, to a question from the GPB First Channel “Topic of the Day” programme’s host about where the Federalists party would be on October 4.
“It doesn’t matter whether this happens on October 4 or not. Given the present grave situation, we have no alternative but victory. Apart from fulfilling our historic mission, returning to our natural home in Europe, we have no other alternative. That’s why we’re putting pressure on Bidzina Ivanishvili, not on ourselves.
Whether this victory comes on October 4, 7, 27 or 31, we must triumph. Therefore, it is wrong to set any date and allow Bidzina Ivanishvili’s propaganda machine to present something as our defeat when the regime itself is failing, because we see systematic crimes within the regime every day, and these arrests that are taking place,” Chergoleishvili declared.
According to her, however much the regime may shout that the opposition is organising revolutions and so forth, “this is nonsense, farce and rubbish.”
“The stream of people and the force that we see on Georgia’s streets is not controlled by the opposition. These people are also scrutinising the opposition and making demands: if you wish to earn my support, I must be at the centre of your focus; power must originate from the electorate, not from the whims of a single individual. The Georgian people are fed up with Bidzina Ivanishvili’s system precisely because it hinges entirely on the whims of one man. If you lose his favour, suddenly you’re branded a corrupt official, your crimes are swiftly uncovered, and before you know it, you’re under arrest, aren’t you? The same thing happens in Misha Saakashvili’s party. To get ahead in Misha Saakashvili’s party, just as you need to win Bidzina Ivanishvili’s favour, you need to win Misha’s favour and flatter him. The same thing happens in Khazaradze’s party, and that’s why Bidzina Ivanishvili’s defeat is being delayed. Because it’s washing everything,” Chergoleishvili declared.
As Chergoleishvili emphasised, it is of vital importance that the regime is changed, and street protests are crucial in achieving this.
In response to the programme host, Tamta Sanikidze’s question about what a peaceful overthrow means, Tamar Chergoleishvili declared that she doesn’t know what a peaceful overthrow means.
“I haven’t the foggiest what peaceful overthrow means, honestly. This is utter codswallop and actually Saakashvili’s party’s desire to muddle everything up. Who is Paata Burchuladze? If Saakashvili’s party weren’t supporting Paata Burchuladze, who would Paata Burchuladze be? Millions like him want to lead something, and if some party hadn’t supported them, how should they be and in what way? The United National Movement supports him completely from start to finish, everything that Paata Burchuladze announces, and Paata Burchuladze says directly that he will start something in the morning and finish it in the evening,” Chergoleishvili declared.
In response to the question of whether she would attend the rally on October 4, Tamar Chergoleishvili declared that she is on the streets every day.
“I’m on the streets every day. I was standing in the street on November 25, when the opposition lost control amidst calls that “we mustn’t let them hold the session.” I will go on October 4, too, and take my stand. Simply, no responsibility whatsoever. There is a clear divide, with a firm ‘Chinese wall’ maintaining the promise Khabeishvili made previously. Meanwhile, Paata Burchuladze is repeatedly announcing across various broadcasts that he will commence and conclude his actions on October 4. No, we’ll finish when we’ve won,” Chergoleishvili declared.
Tamar Chergoleishvili also noted that the protest will be lengthy and filled with terror.
