Ex-President Zourabichvili disagrees with participation in local elections, "planted topic that divided opposition"
“I do not agree with those participating in the local elections. It was a distraction and should not have caused division within the opposition,” former President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, expressed her views on a media outlet.
She emphasised that unity remains the most vital priority.
“I always say and repeat that I will be wherever there is unity. Therefore, I believe there must be serious unity on September 13, and there will also be unity on October 4. I will be present wherever everyone else is and where there is unity.
I may not agree with some words used, because we should not give this government any reason to pursue destabilisation scenarios. We know such scenarios exist.
Furthermore, I would prefer not to see what has happened around these elections. I believed that elections should not have been our focus at all; it was a planted topic, and there should not have been a division within the opposition over this. I have conveyed this to all political parties. I disagree with those participating in these elections. I don’t think a boycott was necessary either, because these elections are essentially a sham, a mere simulacrum. For some reason, opposition parties entered this race.
The most important thing is unity, standing together,” Zourabichvili stated.
