Ex-President Saakashvili: Everyone's found role in Ukraine, except me, still held prisoner of Russia
“Zurab Adeishvili has been appointed head of Ukraine’s Interpol liaison directorate, and my comrade-in-arms Goga Tskhakaia has been appointed adviser to Ukraine’s Minister of Defence. In short, I alone remain a prisoner of Russia,” writes former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on social media.
He added that in his new role, Adeishvili will focus on apprehending criminals operating in Ukraine and securing their extradition from abroad.
“Zurab Adeishvili led the team within the Prosecutor General’s office responsible for gathering and documenting evidence of crimes committed by Russian forces on Ukrainian territory. In his new post, Zurab will be working on the detention of those who have committed crimes in Ukraine and their extradition from foreign countries, as well as tracking down abroad those who are wanted on Ukrainian territory.
In addition, my long-standing comrade and a man of exceptional character, Goga Tskhakaia, has been appointed adviser to my friend, Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov. This is of crucial importance now, when Ukraine records advances at the front.
Also continuing his successful work is Semen Kryvonis, head of Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau, who spent five years as a member of my team in Kyiv and Odesa,” Saakashvili writes.
For context: Georgia’s former Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice, Zurab Adeishvili, has been appointed Director of the Department of International Police Cooperation in Ukraine. Prior to this role, he had served as adviser to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General.
It should be noted that Adeishvili has faced multiple criminal proceedings in Georgia, both as a defendant and as a convicted individual. Among other cases, a Georgian court sentenced him to six years in prison in connection with the beating of Koba Davitashvili. He was also listed as an Interpol fugitive until 2015.
