Evacuation planned in occupied Gali due to fire

An evacuation is planned for residents of the occupied Gali region due to a rapidly spreading fire. Konstantine Pilia, head of Georgia’s occupied area, shared this information with local media.

Pilia reported that strong winds caused the fire to spread toward nearby buildings.

“The situation is serious. The fire is progressing rapidly, and we urge residents to remain cautious. Evacuation may become necessary, especially for those in higher areas. If the power goes out, do not panic; we have turned it off to prevent short circuits. Please stay updated through the news,” he stated.

Firefighters in the Gali region of occupied Abkhazia are battling the blaze, which reportedly started naturally and intensified due to the wind, with the epicentre located in the village of Makhunji. Local authorities of the occupied region warn that the fire could reach populated areas.

The Enguri HPP fire department is actively engaged in extinguishing the fire.
