European Integration Committee Chair: Georgia compares to no one; It stands where it befits its people
“The statements we often hear from our colleagues are amusing. Georgia compares to no one, especially Moldova and Ukraine, which have chosen different paths toward European integration: One facing a violation of its territorial integrity, and the other—unification with another country,” said Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the parliamentary European Integration Committee.
According to Makhashvili, the Georgian government cites statistical data from other countries since assessments of Georgia are unfair and slanderous.
“When we see incorrect comparisons with other countries, we remind them of the situation in Georgia with respect to the fight against corruption, economic development, and reduction of poverty, for society to decide where Georgia stands and whether or not it is ahead of or behind Ukraine and Moldova. If we look at the existing statistics, everything is clear: Georgia stands exactly where its people deserve to be,” he said.
Moldovan Parliament President Igor Grosu has stated during a broadcast on Moldovan television: “The Prime Minister of Georgia misses no opportunity to criticise Moldova because he envies our rapid European integration, even though Russia has still banned imports of Georgian produce.”
