The Georgian national basketball team faced Spain in its first match of EuroBasket 2025 journey today and convincingly defeated the reigning champion with a score of 83:69.

This match marked Georgia’s 30th appearance in the European Basketball Championship. Sandro Mamukelashvili showed the best result, securing 19 points for the Georgian team.

The Georgian national team has faced Spain four times, with the overall record standing at 3:1 in Spain’s favor. Georgia’s only victory came in 2022, when they defeated the then-world champions in overtime during the opening match of the World Cup qualifiers at the Tbilisi Arena.

The national basketball team, coached by Aleksandar Dzikic, will face Italy in its next match on August 30. The match will kick off at 4 p.m. local time. The GPB’s First Channel and First Channel Sport will live broadcast the match.
