EU Integration Committee Chair claims foreign sanctions are ineffective against national interests
“We observed that when domestic opposition lacked substantive agenda-setting material, curiously synchronized decisions emerged from certain countries,” Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, highlighted a suspicious coincidence between internal domestic processes and international actions.
He characterized these actions as a tactical attempt to aid the opposition’s destructive actions.
Makhashvili emphasized that “these measures would not impact their stance, which remains firmly focused on protecting national interests.” He criticized the approach of countries like Germany, suggesting that “such punitive policies demonstrate a limited diplomatic strategy.”
“If certain countries believe these actions will be effective, that is their prerogative. However, relying solely on negative policies and arm-twisting will not achieve global leadership,” he said.
The German Foreign Ministry has announced additional entry restrictions for Georgian officials deemed responsible for specific administrative actions.
