EU Ambassador hopes Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova to be EU members soon

I sincerely hope that Georgia, together with other candidate countries, especially Ukraine and Moldova, will be in a position to join the European Union as soon as possible, EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski said on Friday.

He stated that the European Union is a remarkable peace project that has enabled its member states to live in peace while boosting living standards and prosperity.

“I sincerely hope that Georgia, together with other candidate countries, especially Ukraine and Moldova, will be in a position to join the European Union as soon as possible in order to secure peace, stability, and prosperity in Georgia.

This process is ongoing, and on our side, we will do our best in order to support it. But, of course, the choice is for Georgians to make. Never the European Union has demanded to open a so-called second front. This is simply absurd.

We fully understand Georgia’s very difficult geopolitical situation. We know Georgia’s tragic history, including several wars, the last one in 2008. We understand that 20 per cent of Georgia’s territory is not under the control of the Georgian government.

At the same time, we, as the European Union, have clearly taken sides and firmly standing behind Ukraine, together with like-minded countries, and Georgia is one of them. We hope that as soon as possible, we will have a Ukrainian victory that would lead to peace not only in Ukraine but in the whole region”, EU Ambassador said.
