EMC calls on Prosecutorial Council not to support Irakli Shotadze's candidacy
Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) calls on the special Prosecutorial Council not to support Irakli Shotadze’s candidacy for the position of Prosecutor General.
The organization believes “Shotadze’s candidacy lacks public confidence, and his nomination for the position of Prosecutor General creates risks for more politicization of the system.”
“Irakli Shotadze resigned from the position in 2018 as a result of public outcry over the ineffectiveness and systemic failure of the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the high profile murder case of two teenage boys in Tbilisi.
The developments and scales of the violations regarding the murder case of teenagers on Khorava street were directly connected to the Prosecutor General’s political responsibility,” EMC said.
