Elizabeth Rood - I welcome the fact that ruling party put forward a new proposal at negotiations table
The US Chargé D’Affaire says the government and the opposition have agreed to continue the dialogue in January.
“I welcome the fact that the ruling party has put forward a new proposal at the negotiations table. The parties discussed the proposal but failed to reach an agreement. However, everyone agrees that they will continue the dialogue in January,” Elizabeth Rood said after a meeting between the government and the opposition.
The ruling Georgian Dream party suggested maintaining the mixed election system for the 2020 parliamentary polls but increase of the proportional share by 2/3 and reduction of Majoritarian mandates in the parliament to 50 seats.
The fourth round of negotiations was held between representatives of the ruling team and the opposition over election system in Georgia at Sheraton Hotel in Tbilisi. Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps attended the meeting.
