Economy Minister participates in Georgian-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation
The fifth session of the Georgian-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held under the co-chairmanship of Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili.
The Turkmen side was co-chaired by Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Nazar Agakhanov.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the session focused on exploring opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation and enhance economic ties. Georgia views Turkmenistan as a vital and dependable partner in the Central Asian region.
As the Minister stated, by virtue of its strategic location, Georgia serves as a gateway connecting Europe and Asia for Turkmenistan, and as a vital transit hub for the Central Asian region as a whole.
Kvrivishvili highlighted the country’s macroeconomic indicators and noted that, notwithstanding global challenges, Georgia offers one of the most attractive investment environments in the world.
The Minister drew particular attention to state investment being directed into Georgia’s principal transport and logistics sector, aimed at enhancing the country’s role within the Middle Corridor.
The session also noted that cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan in tourism would facilitate the launch of direct air links between the two countries.
The ministry also added that the question of expanding cooperation in the energy sector was likewise discussed.
The session was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Head of the Administration of the Government of Georgia Ilia Shamugia, and General Director of Georgian Railway Lasha Abashidze.
