Economy Minister meets UK Ambassador

Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili met with the British Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward, to discuss the growing economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the meeting highlighted positive trends in bilateral trade and economic collaboration across key sectors such as trade, transport and logistics, finance, tourism, and civil aviation.

The Minister noted that in 2024, trade turnover between Georgia and the UK reached $170 million—an increase of 7% compared to the same period last year. Local exports to the UK rose by 43% in the same period.

Additionally, British investments in Georgia amounted to $448 million in 2024.

Minister Kvrivishvili emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the business communities of both countries. She underlined the need for government support in promoting private sector collaboration, including through more frequent business forums and trade missions. She also stressed the significance of the Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and the UK and the need to deepen cooperation under its framework.

The Minister also discussed the upcoming launch of direct flights between Georgia and the UK in early 2025. She highlighted that the entry of British Airways and EasyJet into the Georgian market has further energized bilateral economic relations, particularly in tourism. In the first two quarters of 2025, the number of visitors from the UK to Georgia increased by 26%.
