Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili held a working meeting with Serkan Kaptan, President of TAV Airports, to discuss the company’s proposal for the further development of Tbilisi International Airport. TAV Airports, a subsidiary of the French aviation giant Groupe ADP, currently manages both Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports.

The proposal from TAV Airports follows a recent meeting with ADP’s top management at the Paris Air Show, where the group expressed interest in making additional investments in Georgia’s aviation infrastructure.

Minister Kvrivishvili stated that the new Tbilisi International Airport in Vaziani is expected to become operational by 2031, with a projected capacity of 19 million passengers annually. She emphasized that civil aviation is currently one of the fastest-growing sectors in Georgia. In 2024, passenger traffic increased by 24%, surpassing 7.4 million travellers—a trend that has continued into 2025. As a result, the government is considering modernization and expansion of the existing airport to accommodate the growing passenger volume until the new facility is completed.

TAV Airports President Serkan Kaptan announced that the company is marking 20 years of operation in Georgia this year. He revealed plans to invest $150 million in Tbilisi International Airport to expand the terminal, upgrade infrastructure, and increase capacity. The proposed investment aims to double the airport’s throughput capacity.

“Last year, we handled 4.7 million passengers. We are nearing the terminal’s capacity limits, which is why we’ve proposed this new investment to raise the airport’s capacity to 10 million passengers,” Kaptan said.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the Georgian government will conduct a detailed review of TAV Airports’ proposal. Since beginning operations in Georgia, TAV has invested approximately $230 million in the development of Tbilisi and Batumi airports.
