Economy Minister: Georgia can facilitate energy projects of regional importance that strengthen interconnectivity
Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, described Georgia as a reliable and proactive partner in the implementation of the Green Energy Corridor agreement, speaking at the 11th Green Energy Corridor Ministerial in Tbilisi, an event attended by representatives from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Romania, and Hungary.
Minister Kvrivishvili emphasised that Georgia fully supports the vision of this corridor, which plays a significant role in advancing the European Green Deal and achieving shared goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“Georgia has a unique opportunity to facilitate regional energy projects that enhance interconnectivity and promote sustainability,” she said.
“The Black Sea submarine cable project, which serves as the foundation of Green Energy Corridor cooperation, is progressing actively with support from the World Bank. Following the completion of the full-scale technical and economic feasibility study, preparations are now underway for detailed seabed surveys. This is a significant milestone that will pave the way for the next phase of development,” she added.
According to Kvrivishvili, the data gathered from studies within the framework of the submarine cable project will be shared among participants in the Green Energy Corridor initiative. This exchange of information will create synergy and strengthen the broader vision of a trans-regional green energy network.
