Economic growth is the primary driver of wage increases, says Deputy Economy Minister

“Against the backdrop of high economic growth, remuneration for labour is increasing; specifically, in the second quarter of 2026, wages grew by over 177 GEL, with the average monthly salary reaching 2,389 GEL,” stated Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Vakhtang Tsintsadze.

Speaking on wage growth trends, the Deputy Minister highlighted that virtually every sector of the economy, including financial and insurance activities, mining, healthcare, information and communication, as well as transport and storage, has recorded increases.

“It should also be noted that economic growth is the primary driver that ultimately secures wage growth; Georgia boasts one of the highest economic growth rates globally. Notably, if we examine the performance across the first seven months of 2026, economic growth stands at 7.9 per cent,” stated Vakhtang Tsintsadze.

According to the Deputy Minister’s forecast, the country will maintain a strong economic growth trajectory throughout 2026, with robust growth rates also anticipated in the coming years.

“Crucially, economic expansion is driven, among other factors, by gains in productivity, which translates directly into higher wages. Consequently, the Government of Georgia continues to support the private sector, which will ultimately yield a positive impact on labour market indicators,” stated the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
