Droa Leader Elene Khoshtaria begins hunger strike on Rustaveli Avenue

Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the Droa party, has announced the start of a hunger strike on Rustaveli Avenue, declaring her readiness to “sacrifice herself to the regime.”

“I came to Rustaveli because this is where the main battle for our country is being fought — the battle against Russia. We’ve passed many stages in this struggle: we’ve stood proud in the streets by the hundreds of thousands; we’ve witnessed political arrests; we have seen the parents of political prisoners die while their loved ones remain imprisoned. And now, as the regime intensifies its repression and arrests nearly all opposition figures, I am introducing a new form of resistance,” she said.

Khoshtaria emphasized that her decision is not an emotional gesture but a determined act aimed at victory.

“This hunger strike is not a desperate move. It is a firm decision. If freedom and life no longer hold value in this country — if the deaths of Giorgi Akhobadze’s mother or Onise Tskhadadze’s father mean nothing — then here I am. This is my statement to the Georgian Dream.

The second statement is directed to the people. Revolution and taking to the streets is the only way forward. I cannot teach anyone when to act, when to begin a hunger strike, or when to go to prison. However, by my example, I demonstrate that I am ready to sacrifice myself—and I will,” Khoshtaria added.
