District election commissions select precinct election commission leaders and members today
Today, district election commissions are set to select leaders and members for precinct election commissions.
According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the district election commissions must select 9,153 leadership positions and 15,255 members.
“Those wishing to participate in the selection competition had the opportunity from August 11-14 to apply to the respective district election commission with an application, or to submit competitive documentation through a special electronic platform (Konkursi.cec.gov.ge).
To simplify procedures, the CEC developed a recommended application form for interested candidates, which was available at district election commissions and also uploaded to the CEC website.
A total of 24,314 applications were received. Of the candidates, 9,117 will participate in the competition for precinct election commission leadership positions, while the remaining 15,197 will compete for commission membership positions.
The Central Election Commission urged the district election commissions to adhere to relevant legislation when selecting precinct election commission members. In doing so, they should consider key criteria such as professional and electoral experience, demonstrated ability to work competently and impartially in election administration, and prior participation in educational initiatives related to election processes.
It should be noted that by legal requirements, district election commissions select certified precinct election commission members, as legislation mandates that precinct election commission members chosen by district election commissions must hold certificates. To provide maximum support for those wishing to obtain certificates, the election administration has organised certification exams multiple times nationwide since 2023, including using tests translated into ethnic minority languages. Exams were also conducted this year.
Additionally, educational and training projects were implemented aimed at informing potential members and developing their capabilities,” the CEC information reads.
