Deputy Justice Minister: Amount paid by Khazaradze-Japaridze's partner confirms that they agree with Washington Arbitration, sum reflected in state budget

“The fulfilment of the Washington Arbitration decision and paying the imposed amount is a clear confirmation that they agree with the decision, namely that failure to implement the Anaklia Port project was entirely their fault and responsibility,” said Beka Dzamashvili, Deputy Minister of Justice.

Bob Meyer, a Dutch partner of Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, paid the amount within the Anaklia Port Case several days ago.

Beka Dzamashvili also spoke about the expenses incurred by the state during the dispute.

“The total expenses were 63 million GEL, and these expenses caused losses to the state budget. In addition to not being able to build the port, they also wasted years. They have been attempting to bring lies into the political arena for so many years. After losing the case, the only thing they are telling them now is that they inflicted millions of losses to the state budget, and they seem to be happy about it,” Beka Dzamashvili stated.

Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze lost the arbitration dispute over the Anaklia Port project at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, the Georgian Ministry of Justice said on July 31.

According to the Ministry, the ICSID tribunal fully upheld the Georgian government’s position, confirming that the failure to implement the Anaklia Port project was solely the responsibility of Khazaradze, Japaridze, and their partners. The tribunal also found no evidence of interference by the Georgian government.

The Ministry also noted that Bob Meyer, a Dutch partner of Khazaradze and Japaridze, demanded USD 64 million in the arbitration but had his claims fully rejected. Instead, he was ordered to pay USD 6.5 million to the Georgian government.
