Deputy Economy Minister says visa-free travel with China boosts passenger traffic, strengthens bilateral ties

Irakli Nadareishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with Han Jun, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The discussion centred on exploring opportunities to intensify cooperation in the civil aviation sector between Georgia and China.

“We are eager to deepen our collaboration with China in civil aviation and expand the operations of both Georgian and Chinese airlines. The introduction of visa-free travel between our countries has played a significant role in increasing passenger traffic,” Nadareishvili stated.

He emphasised that adding new air routes and increasing flight frequencies would further strengthen trade, economic ties, and tourism flows between Georgia and China.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted that in 2024, a total of 57,184 passengers travelled by air between the two countries—a remarkable 45% increase compared to 2023.

Currently, China Southern Airlines and Air China operate flights to Georgia. The two nations also cooperate in air cargo transportation, with demand rising from both Georgian and Chinese airlines.

Attending the meeting were Givi Davitashvili, Director of the Civil Aviation Agency, and Zhou Qian, Chinese Ambassador to Georgia.
