Demolition begins on Dighmura River Bridge in Sopeli Dighomi; works to span five months

Demolition work has begun on the road bridge over the River Dighmura in the Sopeli Dighomi. Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze was present at the site alongside his deputy, Irakli Bendeliani.

“The current bridge is in a dilapidated and hazardous condition, posing significant safety risks. The initial phase of the project will involve its demolition. As part of the new design, pavements will be constructed in areas that previously lacked them. The entire project is expected to take approximately five months to complete. During this period, residents may experience some disruptions, including noise and inconvenience to traffic flow. However, considering the safety concerns for all users, this project is an essential step forward,” Mayor Kaladze stated.

The existing metal road bridge spans 64 metres and will be replaced by a new, safe reinforced concrete structure. The works are being carried out by the City Infrastructure Development Service and are valued at four million lari.

Also present at the site alongside the Mayor were Giorgi Abutidze, Head of the Tbilisi City Hall Infrastructure Development Service, and Gizo Vasadze, Head of the Saburtalo District Administration.
