Defence Minister meets Azerbaijani counterpart Zakir Hasanov within Trilateral Defence Ministerial

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Irakli Chikovani met with his Azerbaijan’s counterpart, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, during the Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Georgia Defence Ministerial in Ankara.

Chikovani highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries as the foundation for regional security and development. He expressed gratitude to Colonel General Hasanov for his support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Georgian Defence Minister also underscored the historical significance of the joint declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington, asserting that it will play a vital role in fostering long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus. He reaffirmed Georgia’s readiness to contribute to regional cooperation and stability.

Emphasising defence collaboration, Chikovani pointed to the strong bilateral and trilateral ties with Azerbaijan. He noted that the activities outlined in the bilateral cooperation plan for 2025 are well underway and progressing successfully. The discussions included Azerbaijani military participation in multinational exercises and military education courses planned for the coming period.

Irakli Chikovani emphasised the exceptional strength of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia, highlighting the high level of political and economic cooperation, which is further bolstered by the close and friendly relations between their leaders.
