Defence Minister: Georgia had a treasonous government in 2008; Georgian soldiers have always been, and will be, ready to do their duty

“In 2008, Georgia had a reckless and treasonous government, which is why events unfolded as they did,” stated Irakli Chikovani, the Minister of Defence.

He added that the government of the time had no idea what it was doing.

“Georgia had a reckless and treasonous government in 2008, which is why events unfolded as they did. As for our soldiers, they have always been, are, and will always be ready to do their duty. Unfortunately, Georgia had a treasonous government back then; treasonous individuals who had no idea what they were doing,” stated Chikovani.

Journalists put the question to Irakli Chikovani: “When it is said that ‘this government started the war’, does that imply under international law that this government, meaning this country, started the war?”

In response to the question, the Minister of Defence noted that the Georgian Dream government did everything necessary to vindicate Georgian soldiers in international courts.

“In international law, it means that our government did everything to vindicate our soldiers. The Georgian Dream government accomplished this. Unfortunately, before that, nothing had been done to this end; on the contrary, much was left scattered and much had been written off,” noted Chikovani.
