Defence Minister attends Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Georgia Trilateral Defence Ministerial in Ankara

Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani took part in the Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Georgia Trilateral Defence Ministerial in Ankara, as reported by the Ministry of Defence.

According to the ministry, Chikovani engaged in discussions on strategic partnership with his Turkish and Azerbaijani counterparts, Yaşar Güler and Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, focusing on plans to deepen trilateral cooperation.

“The Minister emphasised that the Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Georgia trilateral format fosters closer ties and enhances interoperability among the three nations’ armed forces. He highlighted the positive momentum of joint exercises and military education initiatives. This trilateral cooperation aims to bolster regional security and forge stronger relations between the defence forces,” the statement read.

The ministers also examined the regional security environment, underlining the importance of the trilateral format in promoting peace and constructive collaboration. They exchanged insights on ongoing defence sector reforms.

Following the meeting, the ministers signed a joint declaration and issued statements reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation. Chikovani also held bilateral meetings with his Turkish and Azerbaijani counterparts during the event.

The trilateral defence ministerial takes place annually on a rotating basis among Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Georgia. Azerbaijan is scheduled to host next year’s meeting, the Defence Ministry added.
